Jan Jaap Knol is director of the Boekman Foundation, Institute for Arts, Culture and Policy. The Boekman Foundation collects and disseminates knowledge and information about the arts and culture in both policy and practice. It stimulates research and the development of opinion on the production, distribution and take-up of the arts and on national and international policy on the arts and culture. The foundation stimulates research and the development of opinion on arts-related policy.Before becoming director of the Boekman Foundation in 2019 Jan Jaap Knol directed the Netherlands Fund for Cultural Participation that promotes participation in culture with programmes for cultural education during school time. He studied Dutch Language and Literature at Groningen University and held various positions at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (Communication Adviser, Project Manager Culture and School and Head of the Department for Cultural Outreach).
